It’s an inside job

”Cleaning the mirror will never change the image that is reflecting back to you.  You must transform yourself and only then will the image be altered.”

  • When you are unhappy with your job, do you find a new job or seek ways of changing yourself?
  • When a relationship is making you feel badly, do you move onto a new relationship or change the way you are within your current one?
  • When your finances have you stressed, do you create more ways of making money or do you alter the way you see and relate to money?
  • When you are unhappy with your living situation, do you move away or dig deep inside to find the root of your unhappiness?

Why do we spend so much time changing our outer circumstances to make us feel better when the only change that will have any lasting impact is an inside job?  We focus on the effect and change it.  For a little while the new job, new relationship, new home makes us happy again.  But time after time, we come back to that same feeling, the rub, the angst, the dis-ease.  We ignore the root cause and focus on the signs, the effects of our struggles, missing an opportunity to grow and change in a truly significant way.

Whatever your struggle, don’t be so fast to change it without first unearthing your role.  Face it, feel it, acknowledge you part in it; therein lays the root cause or your troubles.  Face the discomfort of being abused, or betrayed.  Where are your boundaries?  How often have you turned a blind eye so as not to look the truth square in the eye?  What unacceptable behaviors have you chosen to accept and what has been the outcome?

Whether you are unhappy with whom you are with, what you are doing or  where you are living, the wisdom and opportunity are hidden in realizing your part in it; taking responsibility for your role.  Only then can you move to change the reflection in the mirror.  Then you can move on as a changed person and thereby attract someone or something healthier into your life.
